Report: Fulham’s Wembley hero Joe Bryan on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs

|

One Fulham player could be on his way from hero to zero if the latest transfer reports are to be believed.

According to a report from Football Insider, Premier League sides Leicester City, Newcastle United and Leeds United have all shown an interest in left-back Joe Bryan, believing that the seemingly imminent arrival of Antonee Robinson might mean a case of ‘one in, one out’ at Craven Cottage.

I have said before that I am not totally against the idea of Robinson coming in, we do need some competition at left-back, and if there were a bit of an injury/suspension crisis within the team and Bryan needed to be pushed further forward as he has done in the past, then allowing him to slot in for a few games wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea.

However, I really hope that these reports are not true, because if we are bringing him in the be our first-choice left-back and selling Bryan to make room for him, then that is a major red flag in my book.

Who will be our starting left-back next season?

Robinson

Bryan

Replacing one of the few players who can actually cut it in the Premier League, as his WhoScored.com rating showed when we were last there with an unproven, with someone who came from a mid-table Championship team (before the points deduction), and expecting us to compete on a regular basis just doesn’t sit right and would see us on a path to going straight back down again next May.

If he is brought in as a backup then fine, although hopefully not on the wages that have been reported, because that’s another issue. But we mustn’t sacrifice someone as crucial to our side as Bryan in order to facilitate him.
