Report: Fulham set to show their ruthless side in their attempts to sign Antonee Robinson

|

On the one hand, it’s good to see a little bit of ruthlessness in the transfer market.

Whilst on the other, we are dangerously close to having a repeat of 2018/19 on our hands and I’ll be honest, I don’t want to ‘do a Fulham’ twice.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Fulham are preparing to offer Wigan Athletic left-back as much as £50,000 per week in order to entice him to come to the club, a deal that would apparently blow competitors Sheffield United and Everton out of the water when it comes to wage demands.

Whilst the high fee would somewhat be offset by the relatively low transfer fee that we would be forced to pay in order to bring him on board,  spending that much in wages (making him our 4th highest paid player) for someone who may only be a backup (because after his heroics against Brentford I can’t see Joe Bryan losing his spot straight away), just doesn’t sit totally right with me.

Would you pay that much in wages for Robinson?

Yes

No

Scott Parker spoke in the aftermath of the play-off final victory about how there weren’t going to be any drastic changes, but offering this amount in wages would be a pretty big change in the tone at the club, and would set an awfully high bar for spending on any new players that come in who might be asking for even higher wages than that.

And if Parker is so intent on keeping the cohesion within the squad unlike last time, I’m not entirely sure this is the way to go about doing it.

What about you? What do you make of this news about Robinson?
