Opinion: Fulham are cutting things close when it comes to bringing back key man from last season

|

If there was one signing that the club would make this season, I’m 90% certain that one person would come at the top of that list.

And his name is Harrison Reed.

Described as the ‘engine’ in the Fulham team, Reed became one of the more important players, especially in the run-in towards the end of campaign. It’s no coincidence that we were drawing 0-0 with Brentford in the first game back, only for them to score both goals when he came off as they were allowed more control in midfield.

And with a reported £8m set to be enough to prize him away from St Mary’s, it seems like a no-brainer to get the deal done, especially compared to some of the deals that we have made when we last got promoted.

So, why the delay?

Are you worried with how long it is taking to sign Harrison Reed?

Yes

No

We know that teams that come up via the playoffs are usually at a major disadvantage when they come up, with less preparation time one of the main factors. But given the even shorter turnaround between promotion and the start of the season this time around, we’re probably best not only keeping the side together like Scott Parker has hinted at, but also getting things done quickly so that they can get as much time as possible to settle in before the season starts properly.

Whether that be new signings, or locking down loan players from last year, the objective remains the same, but I feel with Reed the importance factor of getting it done is intensified tenfold.

Next season we need to go in with this past campaign’s solid foundation if we are to have any chance of staying up, and the longer we go without tying down arguably the most important part of it, the weaker that foundation is going to be.

What about you? Are you worried with how long it is taking to get the Reed deal done?
