On Saturday we reported that Mr Al Fayed had paid the dressing room a visit before the clash with Birmingham City.
We tried to surmise exactly what he had said but got it hopelessly wrong.
It turns out that Mr Al Fayed has simply promised the players a hamper if they stay up.
Well it`s not any old hamper, it`s worth £5000 and contains some of the finest food products on sale at Harrods.
Sadly, any such gift will contravene the rules relating to bonuses, all of which have to be declared pre-season, unfortunately, somebody seems to have not yet informed Jimmy Bullard who had this to say,
“I can`t wait for my hamper. I`ll be the first in the queue. The chairman came in and told us he wanted to give us a five grand hamper, so pull your fingers out and do the job.”
Now far from us to be pushy but if the rules forbid the players accepting the gift, this struggling journalist wouldn`t say no!
