Opinion: Fulham should look to Chelsea outcast to provide some much needed strength in depth

|

Let’s face it, we’ve brought in players from them before.

So why not go down that road again (namely the Fulham Road), and see if we can bring one more player from Stamford Bridge to Craven Cottage.

According to a report over the weekend in The Sun, Chelsea are set to loan out forward Michy Batshuayi in order to ‘find him a shop window’, more than likely so that he can be sold somewhere down the line.

And I think we are one of the clubs that should be showing an interest in him.

I feel like John MacCormick made an excellent point on the latest edition of the Fulham Focus Podcast regarding this. He pointed out that any new forward that comes in isn’t necessarily going to be sitting on the bench for 38 league games this season behind Aleksandar Mitrovic. There might be games where Mitrovic is suspended or injured, or perhaps we want to play a different way so we might need a new man up top.

Would you like to see Fulham bring in Michy Batshuayi?

Yes

No

That’s where I think Batshuayi can come in.

If you take a look at his track record, if you give him the opportunity to play, he will score goals, and that’s something that I don’t think we have at our disposal when it comes to our forwards being brought over from last season, they might have done OK at Championship level, but coming up a tier the challenge is going to be much harder. And someone like Batshuayi would be a marked improvement on who we already have at our disposal.

We might need to do a lot to convince him to come, but if we could pull off a move like that, I think it would give us a lot more of a stable platform to fall back on should we ever find ourselves without our beloved main man Mitrovic.
