Opinion: Fulham can’t afford to leave the cupboard bare in order to sign Championship ace

|

It’s all about how much we are willing to give up.

Just what sort of leverage we can muster up in this situation, and whether or not it would it worth it for us to even consider it.

According to Alan Nixon at The Sun, Fulham have joined Crystal Palace in the race for QPR star Eberechi Eze, but it may take more than cash in order to make the deal happen, as Nixon reports QPR boss Mark Warburton would like Fulham defender Alfie Mawson to come the other way as part of the deal.

The general consensus seems to be that Eze is someone that can make the move up to the Premier League, having blitzed through the competition in the Championship, scoring 14 goals and registering 8 assists along the way this season. It’s obvious that he would be a great addition to the club, but should we be willing to get rid of Mawson in order to do so?

Would you be willing to offload Mawson to get Eze?

Yes

No

In my mind, it’s a yes but on one condition first, that we address the centre-back position first so that we don’t find ourselves scraping the barrel when it comes to next season at the back. We’re not exactly blessed with what many would call ‘Premier League quality’ when it comes to the defenders in the squad, with many of them a part of the worst defence in the division when we went down last time.

So we do need to add some of that quality before we consider letting him go. Personally I wouldn’t mind him and Michael Hector being the starting partnership next season, but if we can get some players in to fill that spot (like Jan Vertonghen before he left for Benfica), then I would be willing to let Mawson go in order to tempt QPR to make a deal with Eze.
