No Away Win – It`s Bugging Me!

The fact that we conceded two late goals at Anfield was disappointing, the fact that we`ve not won away from home, in the league since last September is also disappointing, but half as disappointing as the possibility that such a run may continue on the road.

We always seem to come so near to pulling it off but then capitulate in the end. Speaking after the game, Lawrie Sanchez was quick to analyse the situation remarking,

“We went to Arsenal on the opening day and were leading with six minutes to go and we also got a point at Chelsea when we might have got three in the final few minutes.”

“We`ve now come to Liverpool and gone until the last ten minutes before we conceded a goal, so the days of us going to somewhere like Anfield and getting down like Derby did and Besiktas did, who suffered really heavy defeats, are gone.”

Am I the only one who finds it strange that comfort is being sort for coming so close to finishing a job?

However, Lawrie moves on to discuss the matter of progress suggesting that the manner in which we`re going about matters is some sort of progress, explaining,

“This is the first stage, but the important thing for us is beating the teams around us away from home – not the Liverpool`s, Manchester United`s and Arsenal`s of this world.”

But wouldn`t beating the Liverpool, the Manchester United`s and the Arsenal`s of this world provide a massive confidence boost? If we`re not going there with ambition and desire then perhaps we`d be better off saving our squad for those games against teams adjacent to us in the table!

Thankfully, Lawrie does almost redeem himself when he suggests,

“But perhaps in the not-too-distant future we can perform well on the day and maybe nick the result.”

Just like Wimbledon used to, that`s the spirit. Let`s inject a little more craziness and unpredictability into our season. We just might win away from home then!
