Zat Knight has hailed Fulham’s 6-1 annihilation of West Bromwich Albion as a ?massive? result.
The Fulham centre-back is thrilled at the three points which have put the Cottagers points clear of the relegation zone, and confident they can finish the season in a strong position.
Talking to FulhamFC.com, Knight said; ?Over the last few games, we’ve picked up our performances at the back and there’s a lot more confidence now, as there is throughout the team. Before the game on Saturday, there was a lot of pressure on us, especially with everyone looking for us to extend the home record.
‘Whenever we’ve played West Brom it’s always been a very tough game. They’re one of the sides who’ve come up to the Premiership fairly recently, much like us, and it’s always a battle.?
Knight was concerned about being in a position where there was a slight risk of being pulled into the relegation scrap, but is now much more positive. Manager Chris Coleman works hard with his squad to instil a positive attitude and an attacking game. The 6’5 home-grown defender is encouraged by the attacking side of Fulham’s game. He believes the gaffer’s will to win has a big influence on the team.
He added: ?In the build-up, the Gaffer was drumming it in to us about what a massive game it was,’ revealed Zat, ‘because we knew that if we won it would really break us away from the relegation zone. We’ve got a tough March ahead with Chelsea and Arsenal, so games like West Brom are the ones where we really need to make sure we take maximum points.?
As Zat pointed out, two home games against Arsenal (on the March 4th) and Chelsea (on March 19th) will both be really tough games, even taking into account the magnificent home form that has gained our boys 29 of their 32 points in the league this season.
But not getting ahead of himself Zat was quick to point out again the confidence the squad has ahead of their next game against Bolton at the Reebok stadium despite his teams erratic away form this season that has seen them pick up just three points from a possible 36:
?We’ve got a two week break now, which we can all enjoy after Saturday’s result. It’s a great result to sit on while we have a gap in the fixture list. And it means we can go up to Bolton in a relaxed but positive frame of mind and go all out for a win. If we can get three points up there it could really trigger the start of a good run to the end of the season.’
