Great goal scoring partnerships are not made overnight, they take time to mature, to gel and to come to fruition.

The combined fee paid for Andrew Johnson and Bobby Zamora was something in the region of £15 million and perhaps because of the significant outlay we`re expecting too much too soon.

Rome wasn`t built in a day the saying goes so perhaps we should be showing a little more patience and giving the duo time to get to grips with playing with each other.

Matters were not helped by the fact that Johnson missed a few games through injury and then had to serve a suspension, any momentum was lost as Roy Hodgson had to put in to place a plan B.

But, the main man himself, Roy Hodgson, is seeing signs that Zamora and Johnson can become a good partnership and after the Sunderland game he had this brief snippet to give away,

“I thought Johnson and Zamora combined reasonably well – there are signs that they are beginning to find each other.”

Let`s all hope that vital breakthrough, a breakthrough that sees Johnson get off the mark, comes at Fratton Park this Sunday.
