Goma fairwell to fans

Alain Goma has bid a heartfelt farewell to Fulham fans after being released by the club.

The former Auxerre, PSG and Newcastle defender had been at the club for 5 years, joining in March, 2001 for a then club record, £4 million.

And in an affectionate display of his love for the club, Goma revisited his fondest memories.

‘I had a bad experience at the end of my spell with Newcastle and Fulham gave me the opportunity to bounce back,’ Goma told fulhamfc.com.

‘It was very important for my career and I had a very good time here. I loved it from the first time I came here. It was simple and human, the atmosphere was great, as was the fact that there were, and still are, no ‘superstars’ at this Club.

‘The highlight for me would be the FA Cup Semi Final we played against Chelsea. There was a great atmosphere in the ground and it was a tough game which we were unlucky to lose. We probably could have done a bit better when we were in the UEFA Cup but that was also a good experience for the players and the fans.

‘The fans have also been very supportive and I really appreciate them. Even when I didn’t play in the final few months they were great. I’m going to leave some good friends and some top players.

‘I met some very nice people here and whatever happens next season or in the future, I want people to know that I love this Club and I will always be a Fulham fan.’
