Alain Goma has bid a heartfelt farewell to Fulham fans after being released by the club.

The former Auxerre, PSG and Newcastle defender had been at the club for 5 years, joining in March, 2001 for a then club record, £4 million.

And in an affectionate display of his love for the club, Goma revisited his fondest memories.

‘I had a bad experience at the end of my spell with Newcastle and Fulham gave me the opportunity to bounce back,’ Goma told fulhamfc.com.

‘It was very important for my career and I had a very good time here. I loved it from the first time I came here. It was simple and human, the atmosphere was great, as was the fact that there were, and still are, no ‘superstars’ at this Club.

‘The highlight for me would be the FA Cup Semi Final we played against Chelsea. There was a great atmosphere in the ground and it was a tough game which we were unlucky to lose. We probably could have done a bit better when we were in the UEFA Cup but that was also a good experience for the players and the fans.

‘The fans have also been very supportive and I really appreciate them. Even when I didn’t play in the final few months they were great. I’m going to leave some good friends and some top players.

‘I met some very nice people here and whatever happens next season or in the future, I want people to know that I love this Club and I will always be a Fulham fan.’

  • A very nice eulogy from a nice man and good servant. But… doesn’t the fact that he mentions that there are no superstars, mean you have a lack of ambition?

  • I agree with everyone, FEn_100 they do lack ambition, but he is a nice guy. He is also right Fulham are a simple club!! LOL

  • It’s always nice to know a player has really had a good time at a club.
Best of luck in the future!

  • Have you heard the rumor that Chelsea is buying Freddy Adu and loaning him to your club for the 1st ½ of the season?

  • i think they will stay up quite easily, the 3 that come up will go back down again im affriad

  • What is going on with this club? no transfer activity yet you are in desperate need of some new quality squad members, if something does not happen soon I can see Fulham going down and I for one would not like to see that (And I don’t even support you!) come on dip in to the transfer market for goolds sake!
