Against Tottenham Hotspur, on Sunday, Ryan Babel made his Fulham debut.
Babel, Claudio Ranieri’s only signing of the January transfer window so far, was given a start playing up front alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Easily distinguishable, by his dyed red hair, Babal looked a bigger physical specimen than I’d recalled from his time playing for Liverpool, earlier in his career.
Although the Dutch international only lasted fifty-five minutes before he was substituted, on another occasion he could have easily netted twice.
One particular chance whereby he used his strength to hold off a defender, saw Babel denied a debut goal by an excellent save from the Tottenham goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris.
Talking about how his new recruit had performed and as reported by the BBC, Claudio Ranieri remarked:
“He had a fantastic first half but has come from a winter break so I think in one month he will be ready for 90 minutes.”
Let’s hope so, Babel is a player with something to prove and could prove to be instrumental in our quest to retain our Premier League status.
