Fulham Learn That Football Can Be So Cruel

|

Entering stoppage time on Sunday, against Tottenham Hotspur, it looked for all the world that a battling performance had seen Fulham earn a point against a side that has aspirations of winning the Premier League title.

But one teasing cross into the box, a piece of slack marking and a header from Harry Winks instantly silenced the Fulham faithful and gave both points to Tottenham Hotspur.

There was no time to mount even an attack to get back on level terms and the gap between Fulham and safety still remains a hefty seven-points.

Claudio Ranieri stood on the touchline, looked a despondent man when that winner on and had that look of belief that follows when something so heart-breaking happens.

After the game, as reported by the BBC, Ranieri had this to say about the dramatic loss:

“It was a bad moment for us.

“The performance was fantastic, but we lost the match through experience, that’s it. At the end, we took a free-kick into the box. Why? We should have taken the ball into the corner.

“We played well and sooner or later we will find our way. We have to continue to believe. Now we have to stay together and I hope other players arrive to help us.”

The performance was better, the defence did look more solid and Fulham did create more chances in this game than they have done for many a game but Lady Luck certainly doesn’t appear to be on our side at the moment!
