With his contract up for renewal, Simon Davies showed, last night in Hamburg that he is still a more than decent acquisition.
After netting his first European goal in the semi-final, against Hamburg, the Welshman doubled his European tally with the equaliser last night.
Alas, it wasn`t enough to push us on towards our dream of returning to London with the magnificent trophy and a final that promised so much ended in huge disappointment for all.
Davies, incidentally, goes into the record books as the first Welshman to score in a major European final since Mike England, for Spurs, in 1974.
After the game, Davies, speaking to the media, expressed how disappointed the lads were, remarking,
“It`s very painful. We were hanging on a little bit and put a great shift in and towards the end we were looking to take it to penalties.”
“It is a shame because we got so close. I will look back on my goal in years to come but right now it is very hard.”
Time is a great healer they say, let`s hope so because every one is a little despondent today!
