Before kick-off (Sir) Roy mentioned that come the final whistle one manager would be dancing with delight whilst the other would have tears in their eyes.

Now I`m not sure if Roy let his emotions get the better of him but there was a real air of disappointment, naturally, in the air when he gave he gave his post match interview at the Nordbank Arena.

Roy, justifiably, was proud of his players but the result left him gutted, when he remarked,

“The players are very, very disappointed as we put up a very good show.”

“The game was heading for penalties and despite obvious fatigue we were well organised, well disciplined and looking good value for the result.”

“But, unfortunately, Forlan popped up with the crucial goal.”

“It`s a bitter disappointment as I thought we at least deserved to go to penalties.”

“But I am unbelievably proud of my players.”

We all were Roy, despite the result we`ve had a fantastic season, a season we never in a million years thought we`d have and although we`ll go down in the history books as runners up it`s still a great achievement, a point Roy also picked up on when he commented,

“Everyone wants to finish first but finishing second at this level of competition after 63 games is a remarkable achievement.”

“I`d never imagined we`d get here in my wildest dreams but that doesn`t help ease the disappointment I`m feeling now.”

There`s a saying that implies nobody remembers who finishes second, I`d beg to differ this time, every one will remember what Fulham Football Club achieved on the European stage in 2009/2010!
