What a way to start the festive break!
Heading off through the streets of Fulham and heading back towards Hammersmith last night I was in a dark mood.
I`d paid my money, took my seat in the Riverside Stand and then watched as my side were torn apart by Manchester United.
But what annoyed me more than anything was that, after our recent decent home form against them I never anticipated such a collapse against Sir Alex Ferguson`s side.
After all isn`t this supposed to be a weaker United side who have taken the bold decision to buy in some talented youngsters and blood them in, with several of the old stalwarts having hung up their boots!
Furthermore we were told that their injury list was causing them serious concern and stretching their squad to the limit.
Concern! I`m not sure they know the meaning of the word!
Concern is watching my team give what I believe to be the poorest first forty-five minute display of the season, they simply were not at the races.
Now whether it was a case of a game too far, after our early Europa League start, is something that might very well be debated, but if so then somebody has to take the blame for us operating with such a limited squad.
Before the game there was a suggestion, made by Martin Jol, that there was no rift with Bobby Zamora, but it still didn`t prompt the Dutchman to select him though did it as Bobby sat out a third successive Premier League game.
Returning to Jol, I can`t help but recall his pre-season promise, after he`d signed on the doted line, what was it, something about fluidity and attacking football!
That seems a hell of a long time ago!
So where do we go from here, except to the local pub for a drowning my sorrows pint this lunchtime?
Well our next fixture will see us venture down the Fulham Road to take on our near-neighbours Chelsea, it`s a fixture that I`ll admit gives us more reason to seek a victory than it does our neighbours.
In all honesty it is a fixture everyone at Fulham Football Club should be up for but, then again, shouldn`t that have been the case last night?
For the record books, on a shocking night we were 3-0 down by half time with goals coming from Welbeck (5 minutes), Nani (28 minutes) and Giggs (43 minutes).
We did perform slightly better in the second half but our misery was compounded late on when Rooney made it 4-0 (88 minutes) and just as I decided to leave for that dreaded walk home through the shadowy streets of Hammersmith, some chap called Berbatov struck a firth goal in the last minute.
I`ll have a pint of Stella Artois (full strength) what`s your tipple?
