Is Andranik a good player? Maybe. He certainly showed signs of potential at times. The Iranian looked too lightweight when he arrived at the Reebok, most notably being outmuscled in a Carling Cup game at Walsall. But as the season progressed he grew more comfortable in his surroundings and after several creditable performances at reserve level, he was given a deserved chance.

He came to prominence, with two well taken goals in an FA cup tie at Doncaster. Two more followed at Wigan

Not that Andranik is Steven Gerrard in waiting. He`s more of a midfield destroyer with a good short passing game and the fitness levels to play in a box-to-box role. He`s some way short of the finished product, but at Fulham under Roy Hodgson he`ll have far more opportunity to reach that level than he ever would have under Gary Megson.

Many Bolton fans fear that the decision to let Andranik go may come back to haunt them and that he was never given a fair chance. They may be right. He`s certainly worth taking a chance on.
