Come on admit it, you`re miffed as well!
Yesterday when the draw was made for the first round of the UEFA Cup, a draw that involved Manchester City, you, like me, had a tinge of regret that it was their name and not ours in the mixer for that scintillating tie against those minnows from the Faroe Islands, didn`t you?
Just like me you thought that we`d scooped that ‘Fair Play Award` and that we should be contemplating eating puffin, blubber or whale meat as we enjoyed a two day break in one of football`s most northern outposts.
Just like me you were looking ahead to the possibility of a journey on a boat similar in size to a fishing vessel as it weaves its way north through un-chartered waters, that you were looking forward to viewing the contents of your stomach as you heaved for the umpteenth time over the side of the boat getting a face full of sea spray as wave upon wave bursts over the deck!
Just like me you were looking forward to entertaining the locals, in their bars, with stories of how, despite all the odds, we survived in top flight football after winning three away games on the trot after going almost eighteen months without winning a single away game, downing beer after beer, knocking back local spirit after local spirit before realising you`d spent the equivalent of a months salary, ever fearful of the inevitable ear-bashing you`ll get from the wife when you get back.
No!
Me neither, I think I`ll save my hard earned for a trip to Hull on the first day of the new Premier League season.
Despite previously wishing we were in the UEFA Cup, I`m, now, thankful we`re not! It`s not all its cracked up to be is it!
