Zamora on International Ambitions + More!

I`ve always like footballers who are not afraid to blow their own trumpet!

Not because I want them to fail and end up with egg on their face but simply because I`ve always had this belief that to be on top of your profession you`ve got to be overloaded with confidence.

If you doubt me just look at Mohammed Ali!

Therefore, with Bobby Zamora having scored his first goal in a Fulham shirt, I just love reading about his ambition, his self-belief and the fact that he believes he`s better than the striker partner he left behind at West Ham, Dean Ashton.

So let`s start with Ashton and Zamora commenting,

“I don’t rate Deano miles ahead of me at all. I really don’t think he’s any better than me particularly.’

‘I’ve scored more goals than him as well but that’s football I suppose.”

Two perfectly good points, Zamora came up the hard way whilst Ashton came from the much vaunted Crew Academy. Goals are what count when you are a striker, are they not.

Returning to discuss his move to Craven Cottage and why he was allowed to leave Upton Park rather than someone else, he retorts,

‘I don’t think it was an age thing. I’m only 27 and you’re supposed to be in your prime then, aren’t you?’

‘I think it was just one of those things. The club needed the money and there was a bid on the table.’

‘Maybe nobody came in for Deano.’

Now that did bring a smile to my face.

Continuing, Bobby goes on to talk about his dedication and his desire to gate-crash the national team, remarking,

‘For the last few years I’ve really knuckled down and given everything to be as good as I can – on and off the pitch.’

‘Everything that I could do I have done and I think I started to show that at the end of last season.’

‘Hopefully I can continue that and crack on and do well for Fulham.’

‘I would love to get into the England squad. If I get the chance and get a run of games and get some goals I think it is possible, I really do.’

Well as you said earlier Bobby, goals scored are what count, so keep knocking them in and who knows, Fabio may well come a knocking at the door!
