The score line has a familiar ring to it for away games doesn`t it?

If I recall right that`s five away fixtures that have ended in that manner so far this season and our record of only finding the net on three occasions looks very bleak in the stats book.

But today could have so different!

Roy Hodgson will know that Wigan were there for the taking and that Steve Bruce`s side were grateful to get a point.

For the fixture Hodgson made no changes to the starting eleven that had served him well against Portsmouth last Saturday, meaning the new-boy, Olivier Dacourt, was on the bench.

Straight from the off Fulham looked the better side and created several good chances to open the scoring.

Simon Davies saw a volley go wide whilst Danny Murphy will rue a shot that also missed the target.

For Wigan, Rodallega, headed over but the opening positive points were all ours.

Continuing to press forward Andrew Johnson had a shot saved by Kirkland and also had a viable penalty appeal turned down.

Wigan were not helped by losing two players to injury in the 17th minute with Brown and Valencia being replaced by Watson and Koumas.

Remarkably, they were to lose a third before half time with Zaki replacing Mido.

Fulham continued to create chances, Hangeland headed over the bar from a good position before Bobby Zamora forced a finger tip save from Kirkland.

The offside flag deprived Johnson before a rare Wigan chance saw Mido head wide from eight yards out.

On the stroke of half time Fulham lost Dickson Etuhu to injury and Dacourt made his Fulham bow.

The second half saw Fulham continue to look the more likely side to score, especially in the opening exchanges.

Zamora, slightly lacking in confidence had two half chances that came to nothing before, slowly, the action began to even itself out.

Zaki saw Schwarzer pull off a comfortable save and the last meaningful action, as the two sides cancelled each other out, saw Wigan restricted to hopeful long range shots.

In our opinion it was a good away point from a hard ground to visit.

Next up is Swansea City away in the FA Cup 5th round.
