After not appearing in the first two fixtures of the season, courtesy of a niggling injury, the career of the Fulham goalkeeper, Marcus Bettinelli, is going from strength to strength.

Not only has Marcus, despite the club bringing in two additional keepers, in the summer transfer window, in the shape of Rico and Fabrio, held on to his status as the man between the sticks, but he’s now been called up into the full England squad by Gareth Southgate.

Bettinelli will remain with the England squad, hoping to make his international debut against either Spain or Switzerland.

Previously, Marcus has only been called up for the U21 squad which, at the time, was coincidentally managed by Southgate.

Bettinelli’s chance has come after fellow candidates for the green jersey, Tom Heaton and Nick Pope at Burnley, were ruled out through injury.

There was also the suggestion that Southgate might turn to Joe Hart as a possible replacement but, thankfully, the England manager has opted for youth.

Here at Vital Fulham, we’d like to offer our congratulations to Marcus and hope he gets the opportunity to win that first cap.
