Aston Villa grabbed their first win of the season with a deserved two one win against Fulham today.

Clint Dempsey opened the scoring inside six minutes put through from Kamara and hitting the ball off the underside of the bar, into the net.

Steven Davis had an oppuyrtunity blocked off by Mellberg whilst Chris Baird picked up a booking for tripping Ashley Young.

Carew was put through on goal but Konchesky tracked back superbly and Ashley Young was starting to turn the screw.

A blatant penalty was not given to Fulham, Kamara volleyed, Laursen handballed , Steve Bennett waved play on.

Nigel Reo-Coker played Gabriel Agbonlahor through but he shot wide and before the end of the first half John Carew thudded the post with a header.

Diomansy Kamara hit the post almost directly after the break, curling the ball off the post.

Zat Knight then scored an own goal five minutes after the interval. Reo-Coker’s pass found Young in space in the left wing, went past Baird easily before a cross shot was deflected by Knight past Kasey Keller into the net.

John Carew was missing chances whilst Villa were turning on the pressure, with Keller saving from Luke Moore.

Baird was sent off for a second bookable offence and Fulham thought they had held out for a point before Shaun Maloney put the ball in the net much to Villas frustration.

Vital Fulham man of the match: Paul Konchesky

Vital villain: Chris Baird

Vital point: Clint Dempsey could have won the game for Fulham but like last week wasted a glorious chace by heading straight at Carson.

Vital Verdict: Deserved win for Villa.
