Over in Portugal last night, in what was loosely termed as a training match, Fulham defeated Premier League Aston Villa 3-1.

In what was a good run-out for Kit Symons squad, it was to be Fulham that took the lead. A long ball forward saw Matt Smith guide the ball past Jed Steer in the Villa goal.

Aston Villa drew level after fifty-six minutes when a through ball from Joe Cole found Libor Kozak who produced a smart finish.

But Fulham were to finish the stronger of the two sides. Midway through the second half Alex Kacaniklic produced a sublime finish, from all of twenty-five yards to put Fulham ahead.

The result was then wrapped up with three minutes of stoppage time left when Ross McCormack produced a decent finish t end any Aston Villa resistance.

Although the game was only billed as a training match, the 3-1 win may just give us the impetus needed to get some momentum going as the first fixture of the season, against Cardiff City, fast approaches.
