Three Things Fulham Have To Do To Beat Manchester United This Saturday

|

Thirteen games to go and Fulham definitely need a change of fortune if the horror of possible relegation, back to the Championship, isn’t to become a reality.

This Saturday, the first of those remaining 13 games sees Fulham welcome Manchester United to Craven Cottage in the lunchtime kick-off.

Looking, initially, at the fixture, Fulham face a huge task to get anything from this game with Manchester United, currently, on a ten game unbeaten run since Ole Gunnar Solksjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in the Old Trafford managerial hot-seat.

Of those ten games, the Norwegian has seen his side win 9 and draw the other, the kind of form a Fulham fan, currently, can only dream of.

But, if Fulham are to do the improbable this Saturday, how should they go about it?

Here at Vital Fulham, we’ve 3 thoughts on how to derail Ole Gunnar Soksjaer’s red, black and white juggernaut.

1 – If Fulham, in the complete 90 minutes against Crystal Palace last time out couldn’t create a single on-target shot, we have our fears that we could struggle on Saturday, but, pushing forward and pressing Manchester United, chances will hopefully come. Fulham need to get the ball out wide and provide Aleksandar Mitrovic with the aerial balls he needs to put the Manchester United centre-backs under pressure. Also, Fulham need to be clinical, they cannot afford chances to go begging.

2 – The defence will have to have their best game of the season, concentration will be the key, unforced errors cannot be made and clearances have to be mighty and not half-hearted, we cannot allow the likes of Rashford, Martial or Lukaku any opportunities to display their clinical finishing. Is it too much to hope for the rarity that is a Fulham clean sheet?

3 – Don’t allow Paul Pogba to dominate the midfield. Given half a chance the Frenchman can control the game with his powerful running and his passing ability, somebody needs to be assigned to pressing him, make him feel comfortable and, if necessary, get under his skin, change his mindset and make him ineffective. A tough ask but one that can be achieved.

If Fulham can do the above they might, just might be capable of being the first team to inflict a defeat on Manchester United during Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s reign.
