Three More Points

The win yesterday, against Aston Villa, gave us an impressive 32 points out of 42 available at home, in 2012.

But yesterday was a hard slog rather than a majestic stroll and afterwards Martin Jol admitted as much in his post match interview with the media, remarking,

“With Damien Duff ill the forward players had never played together before, not even in training, so for a result like this is special for us in a transitional period.”

“In the first 15 minutes we played really well but after that Villa had too much possession for my liking.”

“They have an awkward diamond system and I knew it would be difficult.”

“Maybe I couldn`t say we really deserved to win but I don`t care.”

And as for the goal, a Chris Baird rarity, Jol admitted,

“Chris is very good at attacking the near post but he`s always been close, never scored while I`ve been here.”

“It was probably the worst corner kick ever but because he attacked the ball he scored. It`s not always about the delivery, it`s about the player on the end of it.”
