With Fulham`s incomings more or less completed, I think the time is right to have a squad review.
Yesterday I covered Goalkeepers and defenders, so today I’m going to cover midfielder and attackers.
Midfielders:
Michael Brown: Fulham skipper, a lot of heart and determination but unfortunately you need more than these two attributes. He gets slated for his passing but I think that it is good whenever I’ve watched him, sure there’s more than one misplaced pass but give him a break. In my opinion a good squad player but if a good offer comes in, then cash in. He also gets in to good scoring positions to score a goal in my opinion.
Simon Davies: A very skilful midfielder but confidence and performance was severely tampered with at Everton but as they say form is temporary class is permanent, so I believe if Sanchez can unlock a door inside Davies, class performances will be flying out it like water out of a bottle. Here’s hoping Sanchez can find the right key…
Papa Bouba Diop: Sanchez has been full of praise for this Senegalese powerhouse, so I can’t see him being sold. In my opinion he’s like Fulham`s Paul Scholes, hits the odd great shot, miss times a tackle but when gets it right is a cruncher of a tackle, so maybe a rotation with Jimmy Bullard will work as I can’t see Steven Davis being dropped unless he performs poorly.
Ahmad Elrich: Er……. he’s Australian, a right winger and is in his twenties. That’s about it really.
Simon Elliot: A great dead ball specialist but unfortunately we haven’t seen him play much at Fulham due to his dodgy knee. Handy player though.
Alexey Smertin: This lad oozes class, has a great touch, gets himself out of tricky positions by picking out a pass or taking it past a player, judges a tackle well but unfortunately when he was on loan at Charlton from Chelsea he had a bust up with Les Reid, now Fulhams technical director so his chances could be limited this season.
Jimmy Bullard: This lad has the best personality and character in the Premiership, probably in most of Europe as well! Plays all over the pitch, very skilful, very very good player but as we all know Scott Parker injured his knee, so we haven’t seen the best of him and more than likely never will as he will more than likely pick up little knee niggles from now on.
Steven Davis: A great passer, very good technique but is a little lightweight, could prove to be Sanchez best signing.
Clint Dempsey: Very good attacking player as well as being a physical presence on the pitch, hopefully will flourish at the Cottage this season.
Forwards:
Heidar Helguson: A hard working player who gives it his all for the team and the cause. Poor first touch but makes up for it with his leaping and heading ability whilst also having a good strike on him.
David Healy: Likes a lob does David Healy! He’s a forward that Fulham really need in my opinion a true forward one that stays up front and finishes don’t go back to midfield and help out he stays up front which Fulham have desperately needed.
Bjorn Runstrom: Haven’t seen enough of him to make a judgment but apparently is off to Turkey or Germany, good luck to him.
Collins John: A player that I believe Sanchez will work very closely with to try and improve him as a player. John already has a good finish, just needs to remember that your not allowed goal hang like when you were playing in the park with your mates.
Brian McBride: In my opinion this guy will go down as a Fulham legend when he leaves, the amount of times he has carried the team as well as scoring vital goals is more than admirable it’s legendary, have heard he could leave in January?
Diomansy Kamara: As we saw last night, he has a mean finish as well as being a physical presence. ‘Joe’ should have a target of fifteen goals this season and I believe he will get it.
