The Spirit of 2008

As we face possibly our greatest challenge, to remain in the Premier League, Brede Hangeland has a few thoughts.

Hangeland, a veteran of the ‘Great Escape` whereby we won at Manchester City after being 2-0 down and then went to Fratton Park, on the last day of the season, to stay up courtesy of a headed goal from Danny Murphy, wants the current squad to show the same spirit, remarking to the media,

“The only thing that will pull us out of this situation is hard work and belief. We have to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and pull in the same direction.”

“The year we survived, we slowly turned the ship around in the quality of training and the belief that we could do it.”

“We had a system and a bunch of players who followed it. That is the example that we need to try and replicate.”

As usual our giant Norwegian makes perfect sense and he`s spot on when he says we need to recapture that spirit, so how about we start this weekend when Newcastle United (minus Alan Pardew) come to the Cottage!
