Substitute Me For Him!

I can recall sitting in the stand at Craven Cottage when Jose Mourinho made some very early substitutions against us.

At the time I cheered wildly, I thought (like many) that he had panicked, however, as the game unfurled he`d done something very brave, something that I admired.

Bringing on a substitute can always be a risky business. It can work, it can flop and you leave yourself wide open to criticism.

Therefore, it was great to see that Lawrie Sanchez had the testicular fortitude to try and change things around yesterday with the introduction of two substitutes. It worked and this is what Lawrie had to say to the press about the matter.

“Sometimes you live or die by your substitutions.

“This time the changes I made to bring on Shefki Kuqi and David Healy livened things up.”

“Shefki is so enthusiastic. He will run a million miles for you. And he got the header that set up Dempsey`s goal.”

“The thing about David is he needs to play alongside a big frontman.”

“He didn`t start because we have a lot of strikers here and squeezing them all in is difficult.”

“Last week he missed a similar chance to get his goal s I am very pleased for him he knocked that one in.”
