Stockdale Loan Syndrome

At twenty-six years of age, I`d suggest that David Stockdale would be looking towards regular first team football.

Stockdale, who edged into the England squad a little less than ten months ago, following some fine performances after Mark Schwarzer picked up an injury, has seen his career stagnate since then.

Therefore, it`s not too surprising that Fulham are keen to get the player some regular first team football and are, once again, looking to send the talented keeper out on loan.

Hans Segers, our goalkeeping coach has commented,

“We`re looking to getting him playing week in, week out – with a recall clause. It will make him better. Sitting on the bench you don`t learn anything.”

Indeed you don`t but at the age of 26 you have to ask yourself just how long can we keep sending Stockdale out on loan without coming to a decision regarding his long term future.

Schwarzer continues to impress, even if he is approaching forty, but Stockdale needs to have his position reaffirmed otherwise we could lose him for good!
