“So much trust”: Fulham’s summer signing flourishing in his newly appointed role

|

A sign of things to come?

Maybe for the short-term and the long-term too. I think that could very well be the message from Fulham centre-back Joachim Andersen. The 24-year-old defender was named captain on Monday night for the victory over Leicester City and speaking to the club afterwards it seems like it’s something of a natural fit:

It should be pointed out that Andersen has been one of our better performers so far this season, and as the results have shown, the defence has been getting better and better with each passing game, with the partnership between him and Tosin Adarabioyo proving to be pretty effective as we go on.

The one thing we’ve also lacked for some time has been leadership. Whilst Tom Cairney is our captain now, I feel that was a ‘best player’ option and also something to sweeten the deal when he signed his contract back in 2017, rather than anything to do with leadership skills. The same argument can be made for Aleksandar Mitrovic as the team’s vice-captain.

How many CBs will we sign next window?

2 or fewer

More than 2

Andersen looks like someone who could be captain material for us not just this season, but also for a long time to come.

Now whilst we only managed to get him in on loan, if we can keep things going the way they are and he can keep impressing, then who know if we’ll be able to bring him in on a permanent transfer at some point in the future?

And keep this centre-back pairing going for a couple more years to come.

What about you? What do you make of Andersen’s comments?
