Now that, come next August, we`ll be playing in the Championship, it remains to be seen which of our current squad desert a sinking ship.
Economics suggest that some of the better paid players will be moved on and there`s a good chance that those who are out of contract will be allowed to leave unless they accept a deal on reduced terms.
However, one player who is, according to newspaper talk, keen to stay is Steve Sidwell.
Although relegation is now a certainty as against a probability, Sidwell is keen to sit down and discuss a new deal, prompting Felix Magath to remark about the 31 year-old,
“I will be glad if he stays.”
And so will I, even more so if it`s voluntarily due to a new contract being awarded.
