Schwarzer – My Luck Was In!

With no UEFA Cup match to look forward to (thanks UEFA and Manchester City) news is a little scarce today.

Therefore, we thought we’d have a little look back to the Sunderland game and a few thoughts our keeper, Mark Schwarzer has on those free kick moments that everybody is still talking about,

The first saw a crazy few seconds whereby nobody could actually work out what was happening as time appeared to, momentarily, stand still.

Mark recalls, those moments when he remarks,

‘With the first free kick, I didn’t even know where the ball was. It was only in the dressing room at half time that I found out what actually happened.’

‘Obviously I saw it hit the post for the first time, but after that I didn’t have a clue. As I got up I could see all the players getting ready to go for the rebound and I’m thinking where’s the ball?’

‘Then I turned around and the ball hit me and I didn’t even know where it had come from. Then it hit the post and I finally caught it. Mate, I’ll take that any day.’

As for the second, the controversial nut grabbing Bullard and Chimbonda affair, Mark is even more honest explaining,

‘I didn’t even see the ball. It was a fantastic free kick. I can’t say exactly what happened, but from our point of view it was a great decision!’

I guess sometimes goal keepers make their own luck don’t they!

Mark certainly believes so when he remarks,

‘They’ve hit the post three times, had a goal disallowed and hit the bar – I think I’ll go out and buy a lottery ticket.’

You wouldn’t care to share your numbers with us would you Mark?
