Sanchez on the pressure!

Today feels different to other Sunday`s! I actually looked forward to getting out of bed. Such is the power a win gives you!

Yesterday was a relief more than anything; we`re secure in thirteenth place for at least a couple of days and we can all look to the future and a tricky run of games.

However, although I`m mightily relieved I`d imagine Lawrie Sanchez had a wry smile on his face before he pulled the duvet up over his body last night.

Prior to the game, the tabloids carried quotes from Lawrie that seemed ot focus on the down side of our season, quotes such as,

“Whether I get to complete the mission only time will tell.”

“That`s very much in the chairman`s hands”

“We haven`t won enough games – I now that, the players know that, the chairman knows that. We`re hard to beat – probably the hardest team to beat in the bottom half of the table.”

“But we`ve got six draws. I f we win a couple of games, those draws look good.”

“But if we don`t, people will be saying we should have won those six games. That`s the way management is.”

Pretty heavy stuff but I imagine that`s how life is when you`re struggling at the wrong end of the table after an investment in the region of upwards of £27 million.

Thankfully, Lawrie realises the enormity of the task ahead, the enormity of getting back on track a playing squad that had been eroded season after season through a lack of ambition.

Quotes such as these seem to counter balance those form above and would indicate that Lawrie hasn`t received the dreaded vote of confidence that normally heralds a swift departure.

Here`s what he had to say,

“I understood that when I took the job.”

“I didn`t take it lightly. I was in a safe environment before I came here.”

“I decided to take the opportunity and I kept the team up last season.”

“The chairman has given me a lot of money to spend and we`ve recruited a lot of people. I would like to think he wants to see the job done and it certainly isn`t done after eleven games.”

“We`ve played very well but we haven`t brought the three points home often enough.”

I wonder how the situation will be after our next four games; will we be sticking or twisting?
