It remains to be seen whether Sascha Riether is found guilty of violent conduct for his assault on Adnan Januzaj on Saturday, but I`d say the odds are stacked against a verdict of not guilty.

However, following the decision that his actions will see him face the wrath of the so-called ‘star chamber` of ex-referees, Sascha has moved quickly to try and get a vote of leniency by using the social network Twitter to tweet,

‘I want to say I am sorry to Adnan Januzai. It was very unlike me and I can only say that frustration got the better of me.”

‘I want the fans to know that I will be working hard to stay fit and will be ready to continue fighting for the Club as soon as I am able. I will accept the consequences of my actions, and hope to put it behind me when I return.”

‘I also want to apologise to my teammates, fans and everyone at the club, for the ban incurred following Saturday’s match.’

A nice touch but I`m not sure it will have any bearing on the outcome.
