Return of the Man From Down the Pub!

I`m reliably informed that there are still fifty days to go until the start of the 2008-2009 Premier League season!

Fifty days!

It seems like an eternity, seven weeks and a day until I get my regular fix of Premier League football.

You`d think that seeing as there is no football to pay for, during the next seven weeks and a day, I`d be quite comfortable financial wise!

Sadly, that is not the case!

My bank balance teeters on the edge of total humiliation as, like everyone else, I battle rising costs in my social life.

However, I`m not going to moan about increasing fuel prices – everyone should walk like I do!

I`m not going to moan about increased food prices, food is for wimps, but I will have a good old moan about how the price of alcohol is being squeezed up!

There I was last night, stood in the local supermarket preparing to invest in a couple of cans of that remarkable Danish brew – Faxe – when I noticed it had gone up an incredible 20p a tin, up £1.78 to £1.98!

Now those of you who have sampled this wonderful brew will know it comes in a litre tin. To me it`s a preferable size and it saves revisiting the fridge so often.

In fact, it cuts down visits in half thereby helping me to further bring down my carbon footprint by reducing the work my fridge has to do to compensate for the regular opening of the door, but I digress.

What I`m really miffed about is that I`ve had to re-assess my drinking habits so that I can sit down and view our remarkable escape, for the twentieth time, on the last day of the Premier League season down at Fratton Park.

Now, thanks to having cut back on my spending (thank you very much Mr Bank Manager) I`m back on the cider. Why, because it comes in litre bottles, got to do our bit for the environment you know and keep that fridge door shut to save energy!

I can`t help wonder where this is all leading to!

First I`ve driven out of my pub by rising prices and now I`m having too re-address my drinking habits.

Fifty days until we kick off, I reckon I`ll be on a park bench by then!

Room for one more in Bishops Park!
