Report: Fulham showing an interest in bringing Bundesliga midfielder back to the Premier League

|

Perhaps Scott Parker is seeing something that I’m not.

Or perhaps there’s some major change in tactics and philosophy that he’s trying to implement and this is the best way to go about it. Either way, I’m just not too sure if I want to get too invested in this latest transfer rumour.

According to a report over the weekend in The Chronicle, former Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United midfielder Nabil Bentaleb could potentially be on his way back to the Premier League, with his current side Schalke 04 in Germany looking to offload. A further report in The Sunday Mirror (06/12/20, print edition p73) have claimed that Fulham and Newcastle United both apparently showing an interest in the midfielder.

The reason I say I can’t see this happening is because as I’ve mentioned before, there are just too many bodies occupying the central midfield spot for us to really be considering making a move there, especially when you consider that we’ve got more players on our books who can’t even make the Premier League squad.

How much will Fulham spend this winter?

Less than £10m

More than £10m

So unless there is set to be some major purge at the position (we already know that Jean Michel-Seri is being snooped at for a potential move for instance), I just can’t see what purpose bringing in Bentaleb, or indeed any central midfielder should do for us in our current situation.

Especially when there are much more important positions that we need to be looking at right now, such as getting Aleksandar Mitrovic someone to play up front with/instead of him.

What about you? Do you find it weird that we are looking at central midfield when it’s not a position that comes across as particularly important for us right now?
