Report: Fulham hitting the reset button as veteran duo are being prepped for departure

|

I think it was this fan that put it best.

“Don’t be sad that it’s over, smile because it happened.” Because that’s the reality that is facing Fulham right now

According to Sky Sports’ transfer centre (30/8/2020, 21:50), with the recent arrivals of Harrison Reed and Mario Lemina, Fulham are looking at loaning out veteran midfielders Stefan Johansen and Kevin McDonald.

The pair have been at the club since the summer of 2016 and have been a solid part of the foundations at the club ever since, including being regular contributors to our 2017/18 promotion forming that now somewhat iconic (well iconic within the Fulham realm) midfield trio with Tom Cairney.

Should the club loan StefJo and KMac?

Yes

No

With the club looking to take a step in a new direction and going more youthful with each new signing, it was inevitable that this was likely going to be the case, however I still would have liked to see them stick around as rotation players. With the season looking rather congested, players are going to need rest, and players like Johansen and McDonald could have played a crucial role in cup games for instance or during the winter period.

Beyond that, there’s off the pitch stuff too. We’ve all seen the photo of McDonald after the playoff final in 2018, and even the club have gone out of their way to talk about his leadership skills, which in my eyes at least have always made him more suitable to be captain than Tom Cairney.

Hopefully the club comes to their senses and decides to keep at least one of them at the club, because I think with the new schedule, we’re going to get to a place where we would rather have them and not need them, than need them and not have them.
