Since taking over in time for the New Years Day fixture, Roy Hodgson has gone about his business in a quiet, efficient manner.

After ensuring another season in top flight football, the plaudits are starting to emerge for the man who we owe so much to.

Often in top flight football, the manager will offer praise to his backroom staff. We`ve no doubt that Roy will have done that in private.

However, one of his back room staff, Ray Lewington, has come out and offered praise of his own to a remarkable gaffer.

This is what Ray had to say about Roy,

“You can`t measure what he`s done. With Roy, he doesn`t come out and tell people how good he is.”

“He`s the hardest working manager that I`ve ever come across, he`s a terrific coach and he had tunnel vision.”

“The players realize this man knows his stuff and start to buy into it. He deserves unbelievable credit.”

Ray also took time out to speak out about the hero of Sunday, Danny Murphy remarking,

“That`s the first time I`ve seen Danny head a ball, he doesn`t even head the ball in training let alone a match.”

“He wasn`t supposed to be in there anyway. On an ordinary day I think the manager Roy Hodgson might have something to say about that because he`s normally very strict on things like that.”

“But we`re thankful that he`s used his brains and got in there and put it away.”

As an aside, I (and I mean this in the best possible taste seeing as you`ve achieved hero status) would love to know how you pulled that wife of yours Mr Murphy?
