Portsmouth won todays Asian Cup match one nil albeit undeservedly and through a mistake from Zat Knight but Benjani took his chance well. Here’s a review of Fulham’s performance.

First team:

T.Warner – Didn’t have much to do but showed good hands from a Hreidarsson cross shot. No fault for the goal, Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

C.Baird – Had some nice touches and confident passing but looked a little bit overwhelmed at times, it looked as if the heat got to him. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

A.Hughes – Brilliant, did his defensive duties with aplomb whilst not panicking with the ball at his feet, overall a solid performance. Vital Fulham rating: 7/10

Z.Knight – Defensively wise he was poor, muscled out by David Nugent and being caught out of position. Is passing was awful, in the space of five minutes he managed to balloon two balls out of the pitch and over hit another long range pass which Dempsey couldn’t control. Vital Fulham rating: 5/10

Paul Konchesky – Gave a solid performance, his pace looks like it will be a great asset for Fulham, didn’t get forward as much as a left back should but other than that he performed well. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

Simon Davies – Did well, nice little runs and passes, worked hard, had nice link up play and put in a sublime cross for Dempsey but he couldn’t take it. Vital Fulham rating – 7/10

A.Smertin – Age seemed to catch up with Smertin in the end with him having to come off after losing his way in the game due to the heat. Passing was good, intercepted passes and started up attacks, very impressed by him. Vital Fulham rating 8/10

S.Davis – Drifted in and out of the game but did ok, passing seemed a little poor but made up for that by the amount of work he put in. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

C.Dempsey – Very exciting even though at the start of the match he looked as if he wish he were somewhere else, put in a nice few crosses whilst getting in good positions to score albeit not taking them also played a sublime cross ball to Brian McBride in the first half, Vital Fulham rating: 7/10

D.Kamara – Worked very hard and could of broken a leg after a strong challenge from Campbell. Created chances for himself whilst also looking very exciting, poor passing though, more to come from Kamara in my opinion. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

B.McBride – Ineffective but gave his all as always, Fulham need to get another striker in as we can’t rely on Kamara the whole time. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

substitutions:

R.Batista for T.Warner – Made an excellent save after Zat Knight nearly scored an own goal but then flapped at every cross and corner that came his way. Vital Fulham rating: 6/10

C.John for D.Kamara – Didn’t do much but did create a chance for himself, think we should sell him with him being on the last year of his contract. Vital Fulham rating: 5/10

D.Healy for B.McBride – My first impressions of Healy was that he was a box player but after today my opinion has changed. He seems to like to drop into midfield, collect the ball and run with it instead of staying up front waiting for service, had one chance but was closed down by Campbell. Vital Fulham rating 6/10

M.Timlin for C.Dempsey – Didn’t do enough to get a rating, no fault of his own though, very hard to work something for ten minutes.

L.Rosenior for S.Davies – Nice little bit of skill but then produced a poor cross add to that poor passing it accumulated into a poor performance. Vital Fulham rating: 5/10

P.Bouba Diop for A.Smertin – He tried to impose himself and did ok, had a ferocious shot as well that was brilliantly saved by David James. Vital Fulham Rating: 6/10

Highlights:

The amount of chances that Fulham created even though we didn’t take them, we still got in the positions.

The way we played the ball on the deck and tried opening up the defence instead of hoofing it apart from Zat Knight who took it upon himself to lump the living daylight out of the ball.

Lowlights:

Set pieces were atrocious and really need to be worked on as a team should be aiming tto get at least ten goals from set pieces in the premiership but the amount of wastefulness that happened today really annoyed me.

Sol Campbell’s tackle on Diomansy Kamara was dangerous, yes he won the ball but the follow through could have broke Kamaras leg, also insisted on barging through Kamara off the ball/
