Name: Edwin van der Sar
Born: 29 October 1970
Position: Goalkeeper
Caps: 123

The Former Fulham Stopper has just completed a very successful season at Manchester United, winning the league and Champions League (Thanks to his Penalty save).

The most capped player for Holland after over taking Frank de Boer’s record in the 2006 World Cup second round match against Portugal.

He is currently the Captain of the Dutch side and in my eyes is the best Goalkeeper in the World (even at his advanced years).

He has been in goal for three successive eliminations from major competitions by penalties: Euro 96, 1998 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2000. But thankfully in the Euro 2004 penalty shootout he spectacularly saved Olof Mellberg’s shot to go through to the Semi-finals and lose the tag of worst penalty taking nation along side England.

At the grand old age of 37, Edwin has confirmed that he intends to retire from international football following this tournament, however looks like he’ll be extending his stay with the Devils for another two years.

Cover:

Maarten Stekelenburg- 25-year old Ajax keeper. Has been named the next Van Der Sar and looks certain to keep up the Dutch Keeping standard once Edwin retires. Strongly linked to a move to England recently but has stated he wishes to stay at Ajax.

Henk Timmer- 36-year old Feyenoord Goalkeeper. Has been number two to Edwin since his first call up in 2005. Experienced and on his day a world class keeper, just unlucky he had Edwin as competition.
