Okay, it`s still not certain that we`re going down but the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle has made it that little bit harder for us to confidently predict that we can escape.

It`s a times like this that you can`t help but wonder what next season will bring, will it be Premier League football or will it be Championship football!

It`s obviously a thought that has passed through the mind of Jimmy Bullard, who, prior to the Newcastle defeat yesterday spoke eloquently about returning to Newcastle and the dreaded drop. Perhaps it should be recalled that it was at Newcastle, back in September 2006, that Jimmy suffered his career threatening injury.

Here`s what Jimmy had to day on, first, relegation and secondly, returning to St James Park,

“I am scared of going down. I don`t want to.”

“I have worked hard to get into the Premier League, the same way Fulham have. You don`t want to have dropping down into the Championship on your CV. It is like being sacked from a job – it is the same sort of feeling. But it is thoughts like that which will hopefully keep us up.”

And on returning to St James Park, the scene of his horror injury,

“It has been in the back of my mind and it was one of the first games I looked for at the beginning of the season.”

“I love playing at St James Park – it just so happens to be the place where I did my knee.”

“I am looking forward to going back there. I`ll touch the place where I got injured and hope it never happens again.”

“My father was a Geordie and even though I didn`t know where it was on a map of England, I had a mystical affiliation for them.”

So there it is, part Geordie, part super-hero, the irrepressible Jimmy Bullard.
