Opinion: Time for other players to start making up the shortfall when it comes to goals

|

I guess this is probably good enough, but it’s time that they started acting like it.

That’s my takeaway from a rather intriguing recent article from FourFourTwo in which they detailed the best front three from each Premier League team. They decided that Fulham’s best front-line of Ademola Lookman, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ivan Cavaleiro were the 16th best in the division.

Rather interestingly they noted that:

“If they go down this season, as many predict, it certainly won’t be because of the attackers.”

Which is a fair assessment probably in fairness, and if our front three’s ranking against the rest of the league is any reflection of where we are likely to end up in the Premier League table come the end of the year, then that would be absolutely fine in my books.

Will we stay up?

Yes

No

However, it is time for a lot of them to start performing at least at that level, or better still above it. With only six goals in all competitions between them so far as we build up to Christmas, that’s nowhere near good enough for us to be on course to be comfortably safe come the end of the year, and we can’t be relying on the other teams being worse than us, we have to make our own good fortune.

And if they can’t do it, then the others need to make up the shortfall. As I said a few days ago, it is going to take every member of the team if we are going to have a ‘successful’ campaign, and if the front three are going to be stuck being the 16th best, then hopefully those around them can make sure we’ll be more than just the 16th best team.

Although in the grand scheme of things, I’d take 16th right now.

What about you? Do you think this is a fair assessment of our front line?
