Opinion: Let’s hope for more of the same after midfielder shows killer instinct v Leicester

|

I think you can probably best describe him as someone who operates in the shadows.

You may not see the best parts of his work because they tend not to show up on the traditional statistical sheets. But last night he did, and now you can actually start to quantify what an important player he is to the team.

I’m talking of course about Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, a player that I have been very critical of in the past, but his role in the win over Leicester City last night you can put on the stat sheet, playing a killer pass through to Ademola Lookman for the opener and that is something I think is missing from his game.

You can tell he has an influence on the game, ranking in the top ten for us in terms of dribbles, key passes, average passes and pass completion percentage, but when it comes to the final third he just hasn’t offered much.

Anguissa will score _____ goals for us this season?

Less than 5

5 or more

That was always my problem with Moussa Dembele when he was at the club, for all his great play on the ball, he was never able to quite turn that into a prolific goal and assist count, only managing 15 of them throughout his three seasons with us. And hopefully Anguissa doesn’t fall into the same boat, because as I said the other day, it’s going to take a team effort to get out of this.

That means players that you might not necessarily expect to chip in at the top end of the pitch, we can’t get by with just relying on Aleksandar Mitrovic to bail us out like he has in the past few seasons, and if Anguissa can become one of them, then we can really start to move up the table and hopefully survive another season.

What about you? What do you make of Anguissa’s contribution to the team?
