Opinion: Fulham would be foolish to accept bid should one come in for this key player

|

I don’t think it would be a case of going from ‘hero to zero’ necessarily.

Because after what he did at Wembley, I’m pretty sure he’ll always go down as a Fulham hero, but it would leave just a little bit of a sour taste if he were to leave straight away after that.

That’s the situation that’s facing Joe Bryan right now, as a report in The Daily Mail has linked him with a move to Leicester City if they fail to complete their move for Timothy Castagne at Atalanta in order to replace the departed Ben Chilwell.

Hopefully they do manage to complete that move, because not only would it leave that sour taste with Bryan leaving so soon after promotion, but also because we would be significantly weakened at left-back, and the club would be foolish to accept any such offer.

Whilst the club did purchase Antonee Robinson who can play that left-back spot, I’m not sure I’d be convinced if he were to make that jump straight away from the middle of the Championship to the Premier League.

Will we stay up this season?

Yes

No

At least when Bryan made the move to Craven Cottage in 2018 from the same position in the table, he’d had plenty of experience going against Premier League sides with Bristol City during their 2017/18 EFL Cup run, but the same can’t be said for Robinson and we’d be throwing him in at the deep end by asking him to take up that role straight away within the side.

And with Bryan being one of our better performers when we were last in the division, to make that big a step down in talent when we’re more than likely going to be involved in another relegation fight just wouldn’t be the smartest of moves.
