Reports that filtered through early yesterday evening infer that Fulham nearly acquired another goalkeeper.
Apparently, Maarten Stekelenburg was on his way to London to discuss personal terms and undertake a medical with AS Roma having agreed a price with Fulham.
But, with the keeper aboard a plane, some 35,000 feet in the air, AS Roam suddenly realised that by the time they`d decided Stekelenburg could leave the realisation hit home, that with the Italian transfer window closing at 18:00 hours, they`d not have time to sign a replacement.
Therefore, the plug was pulled on the deal with the Dutch keeper totally oblivious to what was going on.
