As we prepare to continue our Europa League campaign with a fixture against Twente tonight, Martin Jol has come up with an interesting comment in the tabloid press.

The Dutchman, returning to home soil, has commented on how when he took over the managerial role, back in the summer, had a few words with Mr Al Fayed concerning the squad he had inherited, words that have re0surfaced this morning and words that read,

“When I first spoke to the chairman, I said we have the oldest team in the top flight.”

“We`ve since offloaded eight or nine players who were on the bench all the time and we`ve lowered the average age.”

“But my line-up is not much different from last season. This could be my toughest challenge.”

All fair points but some might say that those Jol has brought in have done nothing with regards to making first team places their own!
