Norwich v Fulham Preview

This Saturday we start our campaign to win the FA Cup, a trophy we`d so love to win.

The draw though wasn`t kind to us and gave us a tricky away trip to a fellow Premier League side – Norwich City. Throw into the mixer the fact that we`re in a perilous position in the Premier League and there is the train of thought that perhaps, just perhaps, it wouldn`t be a bad thing to exit the FA Cup to allow us to concentrate on securing our Premier League status.

Okay, when you consider that the FA Cup is only one of two competitions we actually stand a chance of winning it does seem a little strange to just talk about casually casting our chances aside, but that`s the nature of the game at the moment, the Premier League is the be-all and end-all of top-flight football.

For the trip to Carrow Raod, Rene Meulensteen is able to call upon the services of Clint Dempsey now that the American has re-joined us on loan. But, my opinion is that Clint will be saved for the survival push.

Looking through the history books, neither side has a great FA Cup pedigree, Norwich have never progressed past the semi-finals whilst whenever we`ve graced Wembley`s stage on Cup Final day, back in 1975, we were beaten by West Ham United.

It`s also strange that the draw has thrown us and Norwich together considering we only met, at Carrow Road, as recently as Boxing Day when we won by 2-1. I`d like to think we could get the same result again and if we were to win I guess the Norwich support might be disappointed but not as disappointed as last season when they exited the FA Cup at the hands of non-League Luton Town.

That my friends is the magic of the FA Cup!
