After making only his second appearance since suffering that horrific looking neck injury, Anti Niemi has spoken about returning to first team action.

In an honest and frank interview, the Finnish keeper admitted that he feared for his safe being in the hurly-burly world of Premiership football.

In a season where goal keepers seem to have been in the wars with Niemi and Cech and Cudicini from our near neighbours at Chelsea also being carried away on stretchers, his words make for some quality reading and do more than stimulate a few thoughts.

Here`s what Anti had to say,

“I have not been nervous on a football pitch for a long time but I was a bit nervous leading up to this one.”

“I remember getting the injury against Watford on New Years Day.”

“I just landed on my neck and felt the pain in my right side – there was a little break which took three to four weeks to heal.”

“It could have been a lot worse and I consider myself lucky.”

“I don`t think it will affect my courage in the long term. It wasn`t the first time I have landed awkwardly but it was just bad luck.”

“It was worrying. When you hurt your neck you immediately test your toes and fingers.”

“I was a little scared because my right side was numb down the shoulder and neck. I knew there was something a little wrong but it was nothing too horrible anyway”

Nice to have you back Anti!
