I`m nervous, very nervous!

I should be looking forward to Saturday. I shouldn`t be wary of the opposition; I should be ready to cheer on our boys, ready to shout myself hoarse and ready to rejoice at the sound of the final whistle as we claim all three points.

But I`m not; I`m nervous, very nervous!

Slowly but surely, I can see the immensity of what lies ahead, a turgid battle to grind out results, results that will define our immediate future. Will it be survival or will it be a plunge towards the trap door? After spending in excess of £25 million this summer, should I be thinking like this!

But I am and it`s making me nervous, very nervous!

Only a matter of a fortnight ago we were looking forward to a run of three games that would see us take on Derby County, Sunderland and Reading. It looked like the ideal opportunity to get a run of results going, an ideal opportunity to at least claim seven points, points that would propel us up the table.

But it didn`t happen and it`s making me nervous, very nervous!

Now we`re faced with the possibility of only being able to take a maximum of five points from those aforementioned games, two less than was anticipated no expected.

That`s making me nervous, very nervous!

Lawrie Sanchez seems content to harp on about the fact that we`re not in the drop zone; that we`ve climbed the table; that we`ve been unlucky, that the tide will turn, that things will change and that we`ll not go down.

Those words, they make me nervous, very nervous!

I look at the fixture list, I see Blackburn, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton on the horizon, four tough fixtures we dare not lose, four fixtures we`ll need to grind out some sort of results from.

But with one win in eleven, I`m nervous, very nervous!

Gazing into the crystal ball, I can see sixteen games played, almost half a season, but the Premier League table remains a blur, a maelstrom of figures whirling around. Christmas is coming, a festive season full of cheer!

But I`m nervous, very nervous!

So please Lord, show us whose side you`re on and deliver us three points on Saturday!

My nerves are already in shreds!
