Martin Jol appears to have pulled off something of a transfer coup.

The club announced this morning that they have signed the former Real Madrid and Mali international, Mahamadou Diarra on a contract until the end of the season but with an option for an extension until 2013.

Now 30 years of age, Diarra, reportedly, cost Real Madrid £22 million when they signed him from the French side, Lyon. Fulham have picked the experienced midfielder up for a free transfer after he became a free agent leaving Monaco in the summer.

However, it should be pointed out that the transfer is still subject to Diarra being granted a work permit by the Home Office.

  • it’s an odd one… why was he not with a club? i hope he either is an improvement in the midfield, or he doesn’t play…

  • Having previously cost Read Madrid an absolute fortune the bloke’s career appears to have stuttered a bit with him being released by Monaco. But he is a quality player and this is very positive news!

  • He left Monaco cuz they’ve dropped to League2. Obviously he didn’t want to waste his talent there, the only question is why it’s only in January that he joined a club. Injury maybe..
